The Weekly Movie Review

Wow...there is really nothing I could say about this film that would even remotely give it justice, but damn it...I'm going to try. This is the Purple Beanie Movie Review of "Let The Right One In"

Originally named "Let Me In", "Let The Right One In" is based of a very popular Swedish novel that was adapted into a film. Being praised by critic after critic and being hailed as one of the greatest movies to come out in 2008, "Let The Right One In" is already in talks of being released in America with English audio, but believe me when I say this movie is worth reading the subtitles. The film opens with a young boy named Oskar who is bullied in school, overlooked by mostly everyone, and pretty much has no friends nor life whatsoever, that is until a young girl named Eli moves into the apartment next to Oskar. But just as soon as Eli moves in, mysterious deaths start taking place around the town as the civilians live in paranoia while others make it a task to figure out who is killing their friends. One night, Oskar meets Eli in the courtyard of the apartment complex as both seem to become quite taken with each other as time progresses, but signs make themselves present that point out that Eli is a vampire. Although he seems morally against Eli killing people, Oskar begins to realize it's something she has to do and understands that he does not want to loose her.

Now that's all I'm going to say plot wise because I really don't want to ruin this film if you've never seen it before, (and don't worry because I left a lot out in that summary). This film is easily what "Twilight" should have been! I'm not saying that because there is gore and what not in the film, I'm saying it because you actually feel for these characters. You feel their struggle and it keeps you on the edge of your seat wondering just how the film will end. Now I understand that the "Twilight" crowd mainly just want a good looking guy and girl to light up the silver screen because they want to get lost in some kind of fantasy, but that's what makes "Let The Right One In" so superior to "Twilight". "Let The Right One In" is incredibly realistic for what it is. I have seen and read plenty of vampire tales, but out of all them, this film really makes you believe that this could happen in real life. The problems Eli faces as a vampire, and the problems that Oskar faces as a kid in junior high are astoundingly realistic, as you feel like you could actually be a kid in Oskar's class or a resident in the apartment complex they live in while you're watching it. This film has gotten plenty of praise, and I definitely think it deserves that and more! This my possibly my favorite movie...hands down!

I give it 10 frozen dead guys in ice out of 10
